Panthera is a genus within the family Felidae that was named and described by Lorenz Oken in 1816 who placed all the spotted cats in this group.
ELEPHANT...
Elephants and sirenians are further grouped in the clade Tethytheria. Three species
of elephants are recognised; the African bush elephant (Loxodonta africana) and
forest elephant (Loxodonta cyclotis) of sub-Saharan Africa, and the Asian elephan
(Elephas maximus) of South and Southeast Asia.
